Fleet numbering system
The STM had a unique fleet numbering system. The STM's fleet number go as such.
Classics
- Between 1983 and 1990: The last number of the first 2 digits was the year. (Example: 53-001 = 1983) and the last 2 digits represents the order of when they were manufactured. (Example: 53-001 = First bus made in this series)
- Between 1991 and 1995: The 2 first numbers represented the year. (Example: 11-014 = 1991) and the last 2 digits represents the order of when they were manufactured. (Example: 11-014 = 14th bus made in this series)
Nova LFS
- Between 1996 and 1998: The 2 first numbers represented the year. (Example: 17-014 = 1997)and the last 3 digits represents the order of when they were manufactured. (Example: 17-114 = 114th bus made in this series)
- Between 2001 and 2005: The 2 first numbers represented the year. (Example: 21-273 = 2001)and the last 2 digits represents the order of when they were manufactured. (Example: 21-273 = 73rd bus made in this series)
- From 2006 to 2009: The 2 first numbers represented the year. (Example: 27-024 = 2007)and the last 2 digits represents the order of when they were manufactured. (Example: 27-024 = 24th bus made in this series)
- From 2010 to Present: The last digit of the two first 2 numbers represent the year. (Example: 30-247 = 2010)and the last 3 digits represents the order of when they were manufactured. (Example: 30-114 = 114th bus made in this series)
Notes:
- 27-5XX Series are late 2007 models with new specs. Therefore 27-514 would be the 14th bus made in that series of buses.
- 28-7XX Series are Hybrid models. These buses received a 7 before the last 2 digits. Therefore 28-708 would be the 8th bus made in that series of buses.
- 29-8XX, 30-8XX and 31-8XX Series are Artic models. These buses received an 8 before the last 2 digits. Therefore 30-882 is the 82nd bus made in 2010.
- 30-4XX Series are minibus models. These buses received a 4 before the last 2 digits. These buses are used uniquely for the senior shuttles. Therefore 30-405 is the 5th bus made in this series.

The Société de Transport de Montréal operates a surface network of regular transit buses (Accessible and non-accessible), Minibuses (Navette Or and 251 Saint-Anne), Paratransit minibuses and a Taxibus service.
