For sure that bus has to be 56-001, the last GM Classic in service, and mysteriously disappeared right after it's retirement, and nobody has seen it since.

Some drivers said that they saw it parked in a corner of Lasalle garage for 2 years after it was retired, but others never mentioned seeing it.

That was a prototype for it's day. 56-001 used a 6V92T Detroit Diesel type engine with a turbo, which is quite a difference from the standard GM Classic that used a 6V71N engine. This could have really contributed to it's longevity, and some good luck and sympathetic maintenance personnel. (Remember 60-013?). ;)

Anyhow, going off on a tangent there, but these are the types of topics and discussions that spark up on this forum, and are always welcomed. We don't always stay completely on topic, but as long as we're having a good time, and sharing stories that you feel others might be interested in, then take it and run!

We never know, it could be parked inside the garage, at Cremazie shops or in a hidden STM property and might one day whip it out for us transitfans...

Who knows! Members who visited the bus graveyards never stumbled upon it, yet they saw buses in those yards that were retired years before 56-001. It has to be somewhere. It was a solid GM Classic! And surprisingly a Prototype that actually remained in service years after the original GMs left service, and was still in service even after the MCI buses that were based off this bus and it's prototype engine!

Umm... They do. LOL They have St-Laurent, Lasalle, Legendre and Bellechasse as some places where you might find Montreal GM New Looks, more specifically, 14-008 and 33-008. ;)

For all I know, CITLR's GM Classics, RTL's MCI Classics and STL's GM Classics are with them getting ready for a huge surprise! Now that will be a party!!

Well, CITSO in Chateauguay tried to hide a bunch of RTL's GM and MCI Classics, but unfortunately when they lost the Casino contract, the buses went with them. :( Only a handful remained in service for a few years more, the rest disappeared.

That sucks... but why did they have to go with the casino contract? I don't understand... :?

Because CITSO didn't need 20+ Classics in their fleet, they had 40+ coaches and it would have probably cost them too much to have all of those Classics inspected and have their licenses renewed. Plus they probably got their investment back by selling them to Capital for the same price they bought them from the RTL. They were retired already, and were living on bought time for the casino run.

The same when Auger* bought 20+ New Looks from Montreal when the got retired, and painted them all purple!!!

*(I shouldn't say CITSO, since CITSO is Chateauguay bus service, Auger was the company providing service for CITSO, and was working with contracts).
